Anti Airs

Anti-Air Tanks of each force from AW2.

Anti-Air Tanks are Land Units. They have appeared in every Advance Wars game to date. As the name suggests, they are designed for taking out Air Units. They are also very effective against Infantry and Mechs, possibly OHK'ing them. However they are weak against most other armored units.

Game Information

Strategy

Anti-Air Tanks are mobile and strong against air and low armor units. They can take out bombers with little to no damage depending on the CO and can attack small tanks with adequate damage and are one of the best units to counterattack with. Not only that, but AA Tanks are also useful for shielding indirects when tanks and infantry are unavailable. However, they need to move next to an enemy unit to attack it. This allows lower health AA Tanks to be subject to devastating counterattacks from direct units that can survive their attacks.

Competitive Play

Anti-Air Tanks are used in competitive play since it's the only affordable way to counter a B-Copter (which is a threat to your other land units). Also, Anti-Air Tanks have an advantage against Infantry and Recons, although you will need to protect it from Tanks, Md. Tanks and Artillery.

Against Mech units, whichever unit strikes first wins. You should attack Mech units with your Anti-Air Tank only when the Mech unit has equal or lower HP than your Anti-Air Tank. You should keep your Anti-Air Tank out of an enemy Mech's attacking range, though.

Anti-Air Tanks are also a great way to counter Bombers (if you strike first), Dusters and Fighters, but this is precisely the reason why they are not commonly used in the first place.
