Lin's Gambit^{(Days of Ruin)} or Countdown^{(Dark Conflict)} is the 21st mission in Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. After completing the mission, Greyfield is unlocked as a playable CO in Free Battle and multiplayer modes.

Story

The Creeper virus has begun to spread rapidly among the NRA because the infected refuse to reveal themselves, for fear of execution. Greyfield himself has also contracted the virus, and demands a cure, something Caulder claims he is hours away from acquiring. Intent on destroying the 12th Battalion, Greyfield is introduced to Caulder's weapon of mass destruction, the Caulder Missiles. However, the meteors have damaged the launching systems, requiring 40 days for repairs to be complete.

With the defeat of Waylon and his forces, the 12th Battalion proceeds to face Greyfield and his army. Taking command, Lin leads the rebels in a race against time to ensure that Greyfield will not be able to activate this horrible weapon. She personally tells Will that she will command this battle instead of him.

Upon defeat, Greyfield is cornered by Lin, who points a gun at him. Greyfield tries to escape his own fate, but Lin wants none of it and kills him, knowing that Will isn't there to watch.

After this battle is over, the rest of the New Rubinelle Army integrates with the rest of the 12th Batallion.

Strategy

Securing the sea is a must. Build a defensive blockade in the east and focus on sea power and destroying Greyfield's Navy. Once this goal is accomplished, build Battleships and Carriers/Seaplanes to pound units on land. Land units behind Greyfield's to create a distraction and push hard in the east. Capture the central factory to allow for an easy push to Greyfield's HQ.

Unlocks

Completing Lin's Gambit unlocks Trial Map #1, Extreme Edge.
